Andrew T. Harvey, a devoted family man and respected member of the community, passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on March 8, 1940, Andy is remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family and friends and his contributions to the world of sports as a baseball umpire and basketball referee. After retirement he developed a love of golf.
Andy was a man of great character and diligence. Growing up he was a lifeguard at Coney Island. Andy worked at OPW for over 40 years. He was also a driver 12 years for the Sisters of Charity, showing kindness and compassion through his work.
His love for family was unmatched. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Catherine Harvey. Andy is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Jan Harvey, who he met in kindergarten at St. Francis DeSales School. He took pride in his children, Timothy (Tina) Harvey, John (Rachel) Harvey, and Colleen (Barry) Siciliano, who continue to honor his legacy. Andy’s life was further enriched by his grandchildren, Matt and Jake Harvey, Alex Hickey, AJ (late Rachael) Harvey, Samantha (Kurt) Ostendorf, and Nicole (Tyler) Busch, as well as his great-grandchildren, Barrett, James, Violet, and Ryker, who brought immense joy to his life. Andy was also blessed with a loving sister-in-law, Carol Brenner SC.
In loving memory of Andy, a visitation will be held Wednesday, October 22nd from 9 AM until 10:15 AM at Bayley, 990 Bayley Place Drive, followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM. The burial will also take place on the same day at St. Joseph New Cemetery.
Andy will be dearly missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of hard work and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
