Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Anthony S. Cunningham Sr., affectionately known as Tony, was born on January 1, 1959, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and passed away on June 23, 2026. His lifetime was marked by a deep love for his family, an adventurous spirit, and a genuine enthusiasm for the simple joys of life.

Tony was the beloved husband of Sheila Cunningham for 50 years. Their journey together was filled with cherished adventures—as partners, they delighted in traveling and exploring new places, creating a tapestry of memories that spanned continents and cultures. Those who knew Tony best recall the sparkle in his eyes when he spoke of their shared travels, and the stories he loved to retell from time spent by Sheila’s side.

Family always stood at the heart of Tony’s world. He was a devoted father to Holly Miller and Anthony Cunningham Jr., both of whom carry forward his values and kindly demeanor. To his five adored grandchildren—Christian Moore, Hailie Cunningham, Jason Miller, Brooke Miller, and Isabella Cunningham—Tony was more than a grandfather; he was a constant source of laughter, wisdom, and encouragement. He treasured each moment spent with them, building memories through shared activities, gentle guidance, and a boundless affection that left an indelible imprint on their hearts.

Tony’s extended family includes his loving siblings: Victoria Scott, Gregory Cunningham, Kimberly Burton, Patricia Roth, Robert Cunningham, and Judy. Together, they formed the fabric of an extended family bound by support, laughter, and lasting unity. Tony’s kindness and sense of responsibility to those closest to him were defining characteristics, rooted deeply in the lessons he learned from his beloved parents, Walter Cunningham and Susan Ohmer, who preceded him in death.

From a young age, Tony’s zest for life was apparent. He found joy playing baseball, a pastime that nurtured his team spirit and competitive drive, and which remained a source of camaraderie throughout his years. Off the field, Tony was known as a proud history buff, delighting in stories of the past and sharing his knowledge with anyone willing to listen.

Ever curious, Tony believed exploration was one of life’s greatest gifts. Whether experiencing new places with Sheila, planning the next adventure, or simply reminiscing about journeys past, his passion for discovery inspired those around him to seek out moments of wonder and connection.

Tony's final days were spent surrounded by the love of his family—a testament to a life that touched many and a spirit that will continue to ripple through generations. In their grief, those who loved him find solace in the countless memories and the enduring influence he has left.

Family and friends will gather to honor Tony’s life during visitation on June 30, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home Delhi, located at 4619 Delhi Pike, Cincinnati, OH 45238. The funeral service will follow at the same location at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cincinnati Catholic Cemetery.

Tony’s legacy is one of love, exploration, and devotion to his family—a beacon that will continue to light the way for all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
