Arthur J. Delconte

September 8, 1933 — December 9, 2020


Art “Arty” DelConte was born in South Philadelphia where he attended South East Catholic High School (now Bishop Neuman) where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and developed a passion for sports.   He entered the Army in May of 1953. He was an active member of the Army Airborne division for 2 years and was Honorably Discharged as an army reserve member in May of 1961.  He played football in the Army and was recruited to play football at Xavier University.  He played football at Xavier University from 1955 to 1959 he was named one of the captains for his senior year.  While attending Xavier he met his wife Barb(his one true love of 45 years) on a blind date and they were married in January of 1959.
After graduating from Xavier University Art began his teaching career at Elder High School where he taught Physical Education and History.  He also coached football and basketball. He was an assistant Coach of  Elder’s 1961 basketball team went undefeated in the regular season.  He then moved on to Purcell to become the head football coach from 1963-1969.  He then moved to greener pastures in 1969 when he began teaching and coaching at Oak Hills High School where he coached football until 1980.  He was also the Athletic Director at Oak Hills from 1988 to 1990.   Art would retire in 1990 after 31 years of education.   He was not completely finished with education because he went on to become an admissions counselor at Mount St. Joe University until 2000.
After retiring for good he was very active in the Delhi Senior Center, watching sports, playing cards, going to casinos and spending time with his family.   Art DelConte will be sorely missed but will never be forgotten.
Art was the beloved husband of the late Barbara DelConte (nee Schummer), loving father of Diana "Dee" (Jo) DelConte, Anthony DelConte, Kristina DelConte, and Greg (Kelly) DelConte, dear grandfather of Jordan (Chuck) Lack, brother of Anthony (the late Dolores) DelConte, many nieces and nephews. Passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020. Age 87. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 19th 10AM at St. Dominic Church. (Masks Must Be Worn) For those not attending Mass, a live stream is available at stdominicdelhi.org (then click view Mass online, then click live steam) In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati.
