Charles L. Hess "Chuck" a beloved member of the community and a retired commercial sheet metal worker, passed away on December 9, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on February 9, 1947, in Cincinnati, Charles lived a life marked by generosity, a kind heart, and a uniquely sarcastic sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.
Throughout his life, Charles had a passion for creativity and craftsmanship. He was known for his love of painting and working with his hands. Charles found joy in collecting various items, showing a keen interest in golf, and tending to his yard, where he took great pride in his work. His motto, "Can't is not in my vocabulary," inspired many and reflected his unyielding determination and positive outlook.
Charles's playful spirit shone through in his fondness for dressing up as Thor; he wore his costume on many occasions, bringing laughter and joy to his family and friends. His youthful exuberance was a testament to his love for life and the happiness he spread.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty L. Hess; his children, Lori (Jeff) Sparks, Theresa (Chuck) Beckman, and step-children William "Buck" (Shauna) Rogers and LeeAnn Rogers. Charles was also a proud grandfather to Christina (Mark), Michael, Michelle (Justin), Miranda (Patrick), Jeffrey, AJ, Joe, Stephen, Dylan, Allyson, Tyler, and Hailey. He cherished his role as a great-grandfather to Mark, Cameron, Kloe, and Wesley, leaving a legacy of love and warmth that will resonate through generations.
Additionally, Charles is survived by his sister, Jackie (the late Denny) Barrett, and many beloved nieces and nephews, whose lives he touched profoundly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Anna Hess, and his first wife, the late Margie Martini Hess. He also mourns the loss of his brothers and sisters: Mary (Bill) Spurlock, Carol (Joe) Forwalt, Nioma, Wilma (Don) Durbin, Russell (Pat) Hess, Cheryl (Paul) Ruhe, James (Linda) Hess, and Carl (Rose) Hess.
The celebration of Charles's life will take place on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Whitewater Crossing Christian Church located at 5771 Ohio 128, Cleves, Ohio. Visitation will commence at 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at noon. Following the service, Charles will be interred at Crown Hill Memorial Park in Groesbeck, Ohio, starting at 1:15 PM.
Charles L. Hess will be remembered not only for his contributions in his career but for the love and laughter he brought to those around him. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
