Daniel F. Burke Jr., a cherished member of the Cincinnati community, passed away on October 29, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on June 1, 1949, in Cincinnati, Daniel was the son of Daniel F. and Eugenia Burke Sr. and the beloved son-in-law of Ross and Jean Dawson.
A devoted family man, Daniel is survived by his wife, Joan Burke (nee Dawson). He is the father of Daniel F. (Kate) Burke III, Megan (Adam) Herndon, and Logan Burke. He took immense pride in being a grandfather to Reid, Rory, and Mia, who brought joy to his life. Daniel also shared a close bond with his brother, Dave (Kathy) Burke, and enjoyed special moments with his niece, Erin (Jamieson Schapker) Burke and Edith Burke-Schapker. Additionally, he held dear his relationship with his sister-in-law, Sue (Greg) Low and their children Jessica (James) Polley and Sara (Scott) Hallam.
Professionally, Daniel had a distinguished career that included roles with McNally Title Services and as a Public Defender with the Hamilton County Courts. He took pride in helping others and positively impacting their lives. Daniel was a graduate of St. Teresa of Avila School, St. Xavier High School, and furthered his education at the University of Cincinnati in Accounting and at Salmon Chase College of Law.
Beyond his professional achievements, Daniel was known for his friendly and outgoing personality, always making it easy for others to connect with him. His passion for sports manifested in his love for coaching basketball and baseball, as well as playing softball and golf. His involvement extended to being a League Commissioner for the Western Basketball Conference. A notable milestone in his athletic career was being inducted into the St. Dominic Athletic Hall of Fame.
Together with Joan, Daniel enjoyed being members of the Irish Heritage Center, sharing their love for cultural activities with friends and family. He was well-known for his ability to bring joy to others, embodying the spirit of fun whether at gatherings, family events, or on the field.
Family, friends, and community members will gather to honor Daniel's memory during visitation at Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home Delhi in Cincinnati on November 2, 2025, starting at 4:00 PM, concluding at 7:00 PM. A Mass will be held in his honor at St. Dominic Church on November 3, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at St. Joseph New Cemetery.
Daniel F. Burke Jr. leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and compassion, having touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his unwavering commitment to family and community.
