Dennis E. Mitchell, 66 of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly Taftville, CT died Thursday July 20, 2017 following an extended battle with Pancreatic cancer. Born in Norwich, CT on March 16, 1951, he was the son of the late Edward A. Mitchell Jr. and Yvette (Arpin) Mitchell. He attended Sacred Heart School in Taftville and graduated from the Norwich Free Academy in 1969. He attended Thames Valley State Technical College and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a BS in Chemical Engineering. During his working career with Monsanto and Bayer he held positions in both Management and Engineering. He worked in chemical plants in Massachusetts, Alabama and Ohio. He retired in 2010 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Surviving, is his loving wife of 40 years, Anne (Sawyer) Mitchell, formerly of Norwich, CT who continues to reside in Cincinnati. He also leaves behind one son Andy Mitchell and his wife Brittany (Brookbank) Mitchell, Monroe, Ohio and two daughters, Emily Mitchell, Kettering, Ohio and Laura (Mitchell) Raverty and her husband Patrick Raverty, Hebron, KY. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Joey and Isabelle. He is survived by his sister, Anne (Mitchell) Duncan, and her husband Joseph Duncan who live in Salem, Connecticut. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives on both the Mitchell and Sawyer sides of the family. Family was an important part of his life. He enjoyed extended family get togethers, and cooked for all occasions. He enjoyed helping his children with everything from home projects and gardening to financial guidance. Dennis loved the outdoors, and enjoyed traveling and over the years vacationed in many of the 50 states. Alaska, Maine, Washington and Montana were his favorite destinations. Seeing buffalo and elk in Yellowstone National Park, moose, bear and whales in Alaska, picking blackberries and watching salmon swim through the locks in Seattle Washington was fun. He was a competitive pistol and rifle enthusiast and over the years was a member of 5 Cincinnati area shooting clubs. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and th National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. In addition to shooting, he was an NMLRA Certified Range Officer and trained many beginners on Firearm Safety. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday July 24, 2017 at Vitt, Stermer and Anderson Funeral Home 4619 Delhi Av., Cincinnati, OH 45238. A Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday July 25, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joe New Cemetery.
