Listen to Obituary

Donald R. Wells, affectionately known as Don, was born on August 4, 1940, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He passed away on January 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, humor, and love that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Don devoted over 29 years of his life to the City of Cincinnati as a police officer, a role in which he exemplified dedication and a commitment to his community. Following his tenure on the force, he transitioned to a fulfilling career at the Greater Cincinnati Credit Union, where he worked for 18 years. His professionalism and caring nature made him a respected figure within both the police department and the credit union.

A proud graduate of Purcell High School, Don’s contributions to his community went beyond his professional life. He was a United States Army Veteran, embodying the values of duty and patriotism. Known affectionately as “the mayor of the neighborhood,” his warm personality and ever-present smile brought joy to those around him. Don was very well liked, always ready to offer help to others and to share a laugh with his famous one-liners and jokes.

Don enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—whether it was sitting on the porch, sharing stories, or engaging in his beloved hobbies of golf, bowling, and playing cards. He found immense joy in these activities and relished every moment spent with family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Gerry Wells, with whom he celebrated over 63 years of marriage. Together, they raised a beautiful family: their children, Sandy (Matt) Doerger, David (Karen) Wells, and Todd Wells. As a devoted grandfather, he took great pride in his role as Poppy to Kaity, Brett, Adam, Ryan, Nick, and Jake. His family was undeniably his proudest accomplishment, alongside a memorable trip to Australia that he took with Gerry.

Don was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Miller, as well as by his parents, John and Delia Wells, and his parents-in-law, Ray and Til Horn. These family bonds, though now missed, were filled with love and fond memories.
