Eric Scott "Cap" Frederick, a devoted River Captain and a man whose heart belonged to his four daughters, passed away on May 13, 2026. Those who knew Scott remember him as a calm and simple soul, a person who lived with quiet strength and unwavering kindness. His life was a testament to dedication, community, and the deep ties formed through years spent on the river.
Scott’s life on the water began early, working the river since he was just sixteen years old. Starting his journey with the Anderson Ferry in Cincinnati, he quickly rose through the ranks from deck hand to River Captain. His passion for the rivers and boats was more than a career—it was his way of life. Beyond his professional achievements, Scott found fulfillment working with Living Lands and Waters, a non-profit organization where he cherished his co-workers not just as colleagues but as family.
Known for his generosity, Scott was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He didn’t simply accumulate acquaintances; he embraced those around him as family, creating bonds that were as deep and enduring as the rivers he navigated. Always ready for fun, his easygoing nature and steady presence made him a beloved figure both on and off the water.
Scott is survived by his beloved children: Brooklyn Barrett, Destiny Frederick, Skylar Frederick (partner Jeff Monahan), and Savannah Frederick. He shared a profound love and partnership with the mother of his children, Catrina Barrett Frederick. Scott’s legacy also lives on through his father, Dwight Frederick, and his siblings, Marc Frederick (wife Brianne) and Thad Frederick (wife Brandy), and his lifelong friend Shawn Anderson, all of whom continue to hold him in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Frederick, grandparents Dewey and Kathleen Frederick, and stepmother Debra Frederick. Their memories remain cherished by all who knew him.
Eric Scott Frederick’s life was a journey marked by loyalty, compassion, and an enduring connection to the river that shaped him. His memory will flow onward, carried by those who loved him and by the waters he so dearly adored.
Visitation for Scott will be Wednesday, May 20, 2026 from 5 pm until time of family sharing at 7 PM at the Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home, 4619 Delhi Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Living Lands and Waters, 17624 Route 84 North, East Moline, Illinois 61244.
