Gerald S. Lane

December 31, 1949 — April 22, 2025

Gerald S. Lane, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 22, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on December 31, 1949, Jerry's life was marked by a love for adventure, a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature, and enjoying a cold pint with friends.

Before starting a family, Jerry served his country in the Army National Guard, where he developed an everlasting love for the beautiful scenery of Michigan and the Traverse City grown cherries that he insisted on using for his signature cherry pie.

An avid fisherman, Jerry found joy on the serene waters of Minnesota, embracing the peace and tranquility they provided. He brought this love for adventures into various facets of his travels, exploring nearly every state across America, the islands of the Caribbean, and his ancestral landscapes across the UK. His adventurous spirit was equally matched by his fondness for socializing; Jerry never passed an Irish Pub without stopping in for a quick drink and a good conversation, collecting cherished memories and friends along the way. And speaking of the Irish, you would be hard pressed to ever find him without some form of Notre Dame Fighting Irish gear on his person.

He is survived by his three loving children: Tamara Megee, Brandon Lane, and Casey Lane. Jerry also leaves behind four grandchildren: Emme, Joe, Maddie, and Max, his partner in adventure and tomfoolery. He is further survived by his siblings, Ron and Paula and his beloved labradoodle, Darby.

Jerry's legacy will live on through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched along the way. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He rejoins his wife, Deloris Lane (nee Chesser), mother, Violet Harvey, brothers George Lane and James Harvey, and his dogs Cookie, Barney, Moose, and Pudge in eternal rest.

In keeping with his wishes, a celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at his favorite gathering place, Crowley’s Irish Pub, on Saturday May 10th from noon until 2:00pm, with a toast to his memory at 1:00pm.
