It is with heavy hearts that we lost our sweet mom, Helen (Burke) Hutt on Sunday, April 26, 2026 just shy of her 100th birthday. For the past four years she resided at Bayley Senior Care Center where she received the utmost respectful care. All of those who touched her life in The Garden Unit, notably nurse Ronda who cared and loved her as if she was her own mother. She also had a gracious roommate, Elaine and her wonderful daughter Barb who was very fond of our mom. In the last few months, our mom had another wonderful layer of care by Christy, who was a kind and knowledgeable nurse with Hospice.
Helen was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Thrumble) Burke. She is survived by her cherished daughters, Celia (Don) Platt, Sharon (Greg) Frey, Terri (Mike) Haney. Beloved grandmother of seven, Justin (Mary) Platt, Briana (Tony) Solomita, Kali (Matt) Velderman, Mitchell (Kelly) Frey, Colleen (Brad) Rigel, Patrick (Whitney) Haney, Andrea (Brian) Horwitz. Proud GG of fifteen, Adelynn, Sebastian, Reagan, Piper, Wyatt, Penny, Ethan, Connor, Brody, Trey, Trent, Elle, Georgia, Cameron and Julian.
Special aunt of Kevin (Peggy, her special angel on earth) Reif, Diane Oestreicher, her devoted and thoughtful niece, Kim (Evelyn) Reif, Lou Hutt and Marlene (Rick) Kelley.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband George of 56 years, her new born son Paul and her only sibling Peg (Carl) Reif.
She grew up in Riverside where both her sister and mom endured great hardships living through the depression. Her childhood helped to build resilience throughout her life. After losing their mom at a young age both Helen and her sister moved in with their ill grandfather. With the help from Little Sisters of the Poor to care for their grandfather allowed them to finish their education and seek employment. Upon his passing, both Helen and Peg stayed in the two family house where they began their own families. When they had outgrown their house both families moved to Delhi and bought homes on the same street. Helen and Peg remained close and while raising their children they instilled the importance of family. Until this day the cousins also have remained close to one another.
George and Helen always put their girls first. They valued making certain that we had a good Catholic education along with many vacations mainly to various beaches. We spent our summers at Delhi Swim Club where we learned to swim and made many new friends. Once her girls were grown Helen went to work and found her dream job as a secretary for Nestle Chocolate Company with five other woman. They all remained good friends after their office moved to Columbus. She then found a part time job with United Way as an executive secretary. Upon our parents retiring they enjoyed traveling together and taking numerous cruises.
Helen was a devoted and loving wife to her George. We witnessed this devotion throughout the years, but especially as she cared for him at home prior to his passing.
We'll miss you mom!
Watch over us.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 9AM until 9:45 AM in the gathering space at St. Dominic Church, 4551 Delhi Rd. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am.
