Jeanette Sehlhorst Mather, a cherished matriarch and a beloved member of the Cincinnati community, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, at the age of 98. Born on February 2, 1927, she lived a life rich in faith, family, and service.
Raised in a close-knit family, Jeanette was the daughter of Frank and Dora Sehlhorst. She attended Our Lady of Victory, Delhi Junior High, and Western Hills High School, where she laid the foundation for a life dedicated to her community and loved ones. Throughout her life, Jeanette remained a devout Catholic, actively participating in and supporting her parish at Our Lady of Victory Church and later at St. Dominic Church.
Her professional journey began at Sehlhorst the Florist, a family-owned business where she exemplified dedication and hard work. Together with her husband, Dick Mather, she also owned the Sunoco Service Station at West Eighth and Trenton Avenue. This partnership in business mirrored their commitment to family, as they raised their children and fostered a strong home environment.
Jeanette took immense pride in her role as mother to Dr. Richard (Tangie) Mather II, Jan (Dr. Stan) Hastings, and Dr. Donna Mather. Her legacy lives on through her children, her grandchildren—Dr. Richard (Mollie) Mather III, Katie Mather, Logan Hastings Wendling, Andrew (Callie) Hastings, and Joshua Poole—and her great-grandchildren, Kristopher, Arabella, Gus, Theo, Ellie, Chase, Rauli, and Lilli. To them, she was not just a grandmother but a source of wisdom and unconditional love.
Jeanette’s interests were diverse and reflective of her lively spirit. She had a passion for riding horses on the farm in Versailles, Indiana, where she found joy and tranquility. She was a member of the Delhi Historical Society and cherished her time at the Delhi Swim Club. She delighted in playing euchre with her friends, events that were often filled with laughter and camaraderie. She loved raising flowers and feeding the birds. Jeanette spent her last ten wonderful years living at Bayley Village in Delhi Township.
As a sister to Robert Sehlhorst and an aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, she nurtured bonds that created a sense of family unity and support, making her home a welcoming haven for relatives and friends alike.
Jeanette's life was not just marked by her personal accomplishments but significantly by her unwavering commitment to her family, which she considered her proudest achievement. She is predeceased by her sisters and brothers, Marcella Littlefield, Ginny Bolser, Dolores Minning-Bailey, Thelma Dasenbrock, Angela Rauf, Adrian Sehlhorst, Linus Sehlhorst, Blanche Renzenkuper and her daughter-in-law Linda Mather. Jeanette also cherished her deep friendship with Arlene Klemann.
A special thanks to everyone at Grace Hospice for the special care you provided our mother.
Jeanette has donated her body to the University of Cincinnati Medical School.
A memorial mass will be Monday, March 9, 2026 at 10 AM at St. Dominic Church, 4500 Delhi Rd. Family will greet friends from 9 AM until 10 AM.
