Jorge J. Hersel, born on September 30, 1931, in Prague, Czech Republic, passed away on July 4, 2026. Throughout his long and accomplished life, Jorge was an inspiration to all who knew him, a devoted husband, a beloved father and grandfather, and a dedicated professional whose legacy endures through his family and achievements.

At an early age, Jorge moved with his parents from Prague to La Paz, Bolivia. This early journey across continents marked the beginning of a life embodied by both adaptability and a deep commitment to growth and learning. Jorge’s pursuit of education eventually took him to the United States, where he graduated from the University of Texas in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. Determined to broaden his knowledge, he continued his studies and later received a degree in Electrical Science, foundations that would define his lifelong passion for innovation and problem-solving.

Jorge took great pride in becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen on November 8, 1967. This moment was a testament to his dedication and love for his adopted country, and it enriched the life he built for himself and his family here.

Professionally, Jorge devoted over 30 years to The Monsanto Company, where his expertise and integrity earned him lasting respect among his colleagues. His leadership and sense of responsibility left an indelible mark within the company, and his contributions continue to influence the field of engineering and science.

Family was always at the center of Jorge’s heart and life. He is lovingly remembered and survived by his sons, Jorge (Pamela) Hersel and James (Kimberly) Hersel. He was the grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He also was a close uncle to Neneca. Jorge’s memory also lives on in the stories and the lessons he passed down to them, shaping not only their lives but those of future generations.

He is predeceased by his cherished wife, Justine Hersel, his beloved mother, Francisha Hersil, his father, Juan Hersil, and his precious daughter, Victoria Hersel. The bonds they shared were unshakeable, and Jorge’s devotion to his family was evident in every aspect of his life.

Jorge J. Hersel’s legacy is defined by his remarkable journey, achievements, and the enduring love he bestowed on his family. Those who mourn his passing also celebrate a life well lived—a life defined by perseverance, deep intellect, and compassion.
