Loraine Huegel, born on August 5, 1940, in Barbourville, Kentucky, passed away on January 11, 1926. Loraine, who graced the lives of many with her warmth and passion for life, made the journey to Cincinnati at the tender age of 15. Just four years later, she would meet Edward James Huegel, the man who would become her cherished partner for 53 years, until his passing in 2014.
Together, Loraine and Edward built a beautiful life in Virginia, where they raised their family amidst a foundation of love, church, and enduring friendships. Loraine was known for her green thumb, often immersing herself in the joys of gardening. She also delighted in the thrill of discovering treasures at thrift stores, activities that reflect her adventurous spirit and appreciation for the simple pleasures in life.
Loraine will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and stepmother, proud grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her children and step-children: Darlene (Chester) Johnson, Judi (late Randy), Angela Umfleet and the late Debbie (Ed-living) Backschieder, . Her legacy continues through her seven beloved grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Also holding Loraine in their hearts is her dear sibling, Muriel Brown. As one of seven children—four girls and three boys—Loraine's presence in the family will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Loraine’s life during the visitation on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her burial will take place in Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, Virginia. Loraine Huegel's spirit will forever remain a guiding light to all who knew and loved her.
