Martha R. Metz, born on July 16, 1939, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025. A dedicated and accomplished individual, Martha's impact on both her profession and her community is fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Martha devoted over 40 years of her professional life to Marion Merrill Dow, where she thrived and excelled in her career. Her role at Dow Chemical allowed her to travel extensively, with journeys that took her to Germany, Puerto Rico, and various facilities across the United States. Martha’s experiences enriched her life and further developed her passion for chemistry, leading to her proudest accomplishment of earning a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati in 1961. Prior to this, she graduated from St. Teresa Parish School in 1953 and Seton High School in 1957, providing a strong educational foundation that would serve her well in her future endeavors.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Martha was a dynamic individual who embraced an active lifestyle. She was an enthusiastic participant in various sports, including softball, volleyball, badminton, and pickleball. She was inducted in both Seton High School's and The University of Cincinnati's Sports Halls of Fame. Her athleticism was showcased as she competed in the Senior Olympic Games for many years, a testament to her spirited nature and commitment to staying engaged and active in her later years.
Martha is survived by her siblings, Sr. Judith Metz, S.C., and Carol Hughes (Thomas – deceased), along with her brother Robert (Paula) and her longtime friend Jeannine Bohn. She was a cherished aunt to Patrick Riley (Jamie), Stephanie, and Gregory Metz, and a beloved great aunt to Danielle, Sean, and Aubrey Riley. Her warmth, kindness, and love will be profoundly missed by her family and friends.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, William and Helen (Riestenberg) Metz.
Visitation for Martha will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Bayley, 990 Bayley Place Drive, followed by a Mass from 10:30 AM. Please no flowers, instead consider a donation to the William and Helen Metz Scholarship at Seton High School or Bayley.
Martha R. Metz will be remembered for her compassionate spirit, devotion to her career, and the joyful memories she created with her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love, achievement, and unwavering dedication.
