Mary Ann was widely known as an incredible Italian cook, famous for her hospitality and warmth. She embraced the role of “food pusher,” never letting guests leave her table hungry, always encouraging everyone to savor a bit more. Her home was a welcoming haven, filled with the scent of home-cooked meals and the sound of laughter—a place where family and friends gathered and felt truly cared for. Her nephews and nieces she regarded as her own children, offering them guidance, wisdom, and a listening ear whenever they needed support. In every way, she was a “mom” to all, nurturing those around her with compassion and understanding.
Her circle of love extended beyond family, touching the lives of coworkers and neighbors who became dear friends. Mary Ann’s generosity and heartfelt presence left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She was known for her ability to listen deeply and provide thoughtful advice, a quality that endeared her to so many in her community.
Mary Ann’s life was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith. She and her beloved husband, John Goodchild, were devoted members of St. Francis of Assisi in Gates Mills, Ohio for over 55 years. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her values and actions. After John's passing, Mary Ann relocated to Cincinnati to live with her daughter, Julia, continuing her tradition of caring and nurturing those around her.
She was also a loving and dedicated grandma and caregiver to many cherished chihuahuas and kitties, whose companionship brought joy to her heart and warmth to her home.
Mary Ann is survived by her devoted daughter, Julia Goodchild, and was known as "Nice Aunt Mar" to several dear nieces and nephews. She is reunited in eternal rest with her dear husband, John Goodchild; her brothers James Saponaro and Charles Saponaro; her sisters-in-law Jean Saponaro and Loretta Saponaro.
