Norma Jean Spencer (née Witmer) passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on August 6, 1931, in Ashland, Ohio, Norma was the cherished daughter of Walter and Doris Witmer. Her roots grew strong and deep in Ashland, before moving to Cincinnati, where she built a life devoted to her family, faith, and community.

Norma’s enduring commitment to her beliefs was reflected in her lifelong membership at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Ashland, Ohio. The values and friendships she nurtured there were a central part of her journey, providing her with spiritual strength and a loving community throughout her years.

Norma leaves behind a devoted family who feel her loss deeply. She is survived by her son Stephen (Theresa) Spencer; her daughter Sharon (Donald) Phelps; and her beloved grandchildren: Spencer (Heather) Phelps, Kristin  (J.R.) Austin, Kimberly (with partner David Fisher) Phelps, Ashley (Kurtis) Smith, and Brittany (Steven) Schotte.  She is also survived by her 11 great-grandchildren.  Her family will continue to honor her memory and carry forward her legacy of kindness, love, and steadfast character.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Spencer.  Norma’s memory will forever be treasured by her family, friends, and all those who had the good fortune to know her in Ashland and beyond.

Norma Jean Spencer’s life was marked by that rare combination of warmth and resilience, and an indomitable spirit that inspired those around her.  While her physical presence will be profoundly missed, the lessons she imparted and the love she gave so freely will remain an enduring gift.  She will be laid to rest at Southview Cemetery in Sullivan, Ohio.
