Ralph Jack Hamersly, affectionately known as Jack, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication cherished by those who knew him. Jack was born on August 21, 1941, in Cincinnati, a city that shaped much of his early years and character.
Jack was the loving son of Ralph and Lela Hamersly, who preceded him in death. Throughout his life, he embodied the values and warmth instilled in him from a young age. He graduated from Purcell High School, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life filled with purpose and diligence.
Choosing a path of hard work, Jack began his career as a machinist. His skill and reliability in this trade were evident to all who worked with him. Later, he became an employee at Drake Rehabilitation Center, where his commitment to helping others and his compassionate nature made a meaningful impact on countless lives. Whether supporting colleagues or caring for patients, Jack’s presence was always a source of encouragement and support.
Jack treasured time spent with his friends, finding joy in their company and shared experiences. Weekend gatherings and lively conversations held a special place in his heart. He was also an avid movie enthusiast, and his love for film brought him closer to those around him as he enjoyed countless stories and laughter.
He is survived by his devoted son, Gary (Andrea) Hamersly, and his loving daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Purvis. Jack’s memory will live on in his grandchildren: Tyler (Robyn) Wilson, Elizabeth (Jake) McCoy, Kaylee (Evan) Kramer, Amanda Hamersly, Jeremy (Sarah) Purvis, Derrick (Ryann) Purvis, Logan Purvis as well as 10 great grandchildren. Each of them carries forward the values and memories created by Jack, honoring him through their lives.
Jack’s life was marked by steady hard work, deep friendships, and love for family. Though he will be dearly missed, his spirit will remain in the stories, laughter, and moments shared by all who were fortunate to know him.
Memorial mass will be Friday, August 21st at Our Lady of Victory Church at 11:00 a.m.
