Steve Thinnes, 66, passed away on July 12, 2025, three weeks shy of his 67th birthday. He was proud to be a lifelong Westsider having lived in Delhi Twp most of his life.
Steve attended Oak Hills High School and later graduated from Diamond Oaks. His roots ran deep in the community where he grew up. He built lasting connections with those around him.
Steve had a unique spirit and a personality that left an impression wherever he went. Known for treating his friends like family, he cultivated bonds that endured through the years. He was especially devoted to his younger brother Eric, whom he helped care for with unwavering dedication.
Chief among his many interests were model trains and guns. He was a pretty good cook and grillmeister. He also found joy in simple pleasures such as spending entire afternoons sleeping on his favorite couch. And in a nod to his distinctive style and sense of humor, Steve proudly won the best handlebar mustache contest at Cincinnati Cyclones games not once but three times-a testament to both his flair and local legend status.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother Willie Janis Thinnes; father Carl Thinnes; brother Eric Thinnes; and sister Lisa Marie Thinnes. He is survived by his siblings Tony (Ruth) Thinnes, Tom Thinnes and Valerie Thinnes. He is also survived by his nephew Tony Thinnes.
May Steve’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and shared in the laughter, loyalty, and love he offered so freely.
Steve’s family invites his good friends to join us for a brief Memorial Gathering to be held on July 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Old St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum 3819 W. 8th St. Meet at the middle mausoleum facing W 8th St.
